A doctors referral is not usually required to set up an appointment with a therapist at ACCESS Psychology. You can contact the clinic directly by telephone (905-982-0606) or email info@accesspsychology.ca
A child & adolescent psychologist focuses on the psychological development and related issues of children and youth. This can also include psychological assessment of potential learning disabilities. Traditional therapy approaches are altered so they are more appropriate for children and youth. This means the use of play and art therapy, especially when working with young children who lack the ability to analyze their difficulties in the same way as adults. With older children and youth, a variety of age appropriate methods of therapy are used to address their presenting difficulties.
The first appointment is an intake session designed to gather important background information about the young person and to formulate specific goals for therapy. Ideally, both parents and the child/youth attend this first session. This is an important opportunity to gather information from the parent’s perspective. The young person is not always present for the entire intake, which can take up to 1½ hours to complete.
Our goal at Access Psychology is to avoid any unnecessary wait periods. We understand how important your time is and will do our best to adhere to your scheduled appointment time. We ask all our clients to have the same respect for scheduled appointments as being late affects us all.
Sessions are 50 minutes in length.
It is very important that you and your child feel comfortable, and safe with your therapist. Should you feel a bond is missing, simply let us know and we will refer you to a different therapist, either within ACCESS Psychology or at another facility. We have only your best interests at heart.
While fees are not covered by OHIP, most private health insurance plans include extended health care coverage, which will cover at least a portion of psychological services.
If you cannot attend your scheduled appointment, we ask that you provide at least 48 hours notice. This may allow for someone else to be booked into your cancelled appointment time and avoid any unnecessary charges.
